Kittery Foreside

Kittery, Maine

The Kittery Foreside neighborhood, location of the main ARQ office, has become increasingly well-known regionally for the growth of its local cuisine and food culture.  Several exceptional restaurants and bars, including the Black Birch, Lil's Cafe, Anju, MEat and others, have opened in the seaside community that was previously best-known for its naval shipyard.

ARQ partners, Paul Bonacci and Lucy Schlaffer, supported the revitalization of the area, first by purchasing and rehabilitating a decommissioned 1950s Post Office building and converting it to a restaurant and gallery space.  It is now home to the Black Birch and Buoy Gallery.  Recently, they added a small park to the edge of the property that created a pedestrian connection to the center of Foreside and a place to sit and enjoy the outdoors.

For more information on Kittery Foreside, an article in the Washington Post describes its recent resurgence as does an article in seacoastonline.
